Fabric Acronyms/Abbreviations:
"PUL" - Polyeurethane Laminate - this is a polyester knit that has been laminated to make it water proof
"LW WP" or "MW WP"- "Light Weight WindPro" and "Mid Weight Windpro" - Polyester Knit waterproof fleece
"FOE" - "Fold Over Elastic" - Stretchy elastic used for edging/fitting on trainers
"BKT" - "Burley Knit Terry" - Super Absorbent, large looped, cotton knit. Simliar to thick towels.
Fabric Specs:
Outer Fabrics:
"PUL" - polyester knit that has been laminated to make it water proof, technically not breathable. All our PUL is "2 MIL", which means its lamination is 2 millimeters thick - some diapers are manufactured with 1 MIL PUL, but we found that this does not hold up as well in the long term.
Print PUL - I send printed knit fabrics to be laminated by the same company and with the same specs (2 MIL). 100% Polyester Knit Prints should perform the same as solid color PUL, 50% Cotton/50% Polyester Knit PUL performs almost identically to 100% Polyester. 100% Cotton Knit PUL will leak if used in diapers, but due to the Fold Over Elastic type of construction, this has proven to work well in out trainers.
WindPro - A waterproof fleece, available in light, mid, and heavy weight, but we only use light and mid weight for our products. This is a tightly woven plush polyester knit. making it both waterproof and breathable. However, due to it's breathability, the light weight windpro can feel damp on the outside due to evaporation (this is not always the case, but can happen when the insert/soaker is really saturated), but this can be lessened by placing a layer of microfleece between the inner soaker and the windpro. Malden Mills - now called Polartec - the best fleece mill in the industry
200 & 300 WT Fleece - A waterproof fleece, available in 200 and 300 weights, . This is a thick, plush polyester knit. making it both waterproof and breathable. These are very breathable, the 300 wt being more waterproof than the 200 wt, but the 200 wt is more breathable than the 300wt.

Cotton Knit - (Cotton Trainer Only) 100% Cotton Knit, stretchy, comfortable, and in cute prints!
Inner Fabrics:
Microfleece - polyester knit light weight fleece, fluffy, stretchy, comfy, "feel dry" and our are all from Malden Mills - now called Polartec - the best fleece mill in the industry
Microchamois - A microfleece with a softer, smoother surface that is pill-resistant and addictlingly soft
Suedecloth - polyester woven fabric that is smooth on the wrong side, and fuzzy and soft on the right side. This is stain resistant and seems to work better in super hard water situations. This is not stretchy, and can make the fit a little smaller than with a knit inner fabric.
Here's a comparison of the Microfleece/Microchamois to Suedecloth:
Soft and snuggly
Stretchy
May discolor in very hard water
Stays looking brand new longer
Stain Resistant
Very Trim
not stretchy
can make diaper fit smaller
Velour - a plush loop knit fabric that is soft, silky, and absorbent - a "feel wet" fabric.
Stretch Terry - a plush loop knit fabric that is similiar to towel material, and very absorbent - a "feel wet" fabric. Not as soft as velour.
Sherpa - a plush loop knit fabric that is similiar to sweatshirt fabric (only the right side of sherpa is like the wrong side of a sweatshirt), and super absorbent - a "feel wet" fabric. Not as soft as velour.
Insert/Soaker Fabrics:
BKT - 100% Cotton Loopy Knit - super absorbent, similiar to heavy towel fabric - hold onto wetness so well, but doesn't absorb quickly, so we match this with hemp or sherpa for quicker absorbency. The thick loops on this fabric create a built in air space that aids in thorough cleaning and quick drying times for the soakers and products that have them sewn into them!
Hemp Fleece (Foldable Inserts) - 50% Hemp/50% Cotton - knit plush, very absorbent, yet trim.
Hemp French Terry (Simple Soakers and sewn in soakers) - 50% Hemp/50% Cotton - Knit Loop, very absorbent, built in airflow for better washing/drying
Hemp Jersey (Simple Soakers and sewn in soakers) - 50% Hemp/50% Cotton - thin, t-shirt type fabric, used to stabilize to soakers for easier sewing, but it does add absorbency as well.
Sherpa (Foldable Inserts) - 90% Cotton/10% Polyester (only in backing) - knit plush, very absorbent, yet trim.
Cotton French Terry (coming soon to Simple Soakers and sewn in soakers) - 100% Cotton - Knit Loop, very absorbent, built in airflow for better washing/drying
Cotton Jersey (Simple Soakers and sewn in soakers) - 100% Cotton - thin, t-shirt type fabric, used to stabilize to soakers for easier sewing, but it does add absorbency as well.
